“Forgiveness” depicts a human hand holding a flower. In the background, a light blue silhouette of a woman is framed between two neurons (nerve cells). Within the neuron, the dark green myelin sheath (covering) to the lighter green axon is frayed and damaged.
This print was created because of my personal struggle with neurological disease. I believe that forgiving my body, even to the cellular level, is an important step to move on with my life. This is a process that will most likely take me years, if not decades, to complete. I imagine talking to my neurological system as if I was talking to a friend.
“ I can see that you are really struggling. We will find something to make you better someday. If not, then we can take this journey slowly. It is not essential to keep up with other people….to accomplish all the tasks that they can complete. We will bear the pain together and enjoy the simplest aspects of life. You are not my enemy but my friend in this lifetime.”
My hope is that this print brings some awareness to the mental challenges that patients with neurological disease face each day. I believe that the body is a physical vessel for the soul/spirit and it is essential that it is not viewed as the enemy.
Please note that all prints are created by hand. Some small differences such as color, marks, and alignment occur between the prints in the same edition. If you have questions, then please do not hesitate to ask!
